Seat Harnesses
Seat Harnesses
Seat harnesses are designed to provide additional support to the lower body, particularly the hips and thighs. They have leg loops that wrap around the thighs and a wider base that sits on the hips. Seat harnesses offer greater stability, more comfort for long riding sessions, less likelihood of riding up, better distribution of kite pull, easier power control due to a lower center of gravity, and reduced strain on the upper body. They are best for beginners learning kite control, riders with back issues or shorter arms, some foil racers, and those prioritizing comfort over maneuverability.
However, seat harnesses can be more restrictive in terms of movement and flexibility during tricks and jumps, making them less suitable for true wave riding and freestyle. They are also heavier and more bulky to wear and travel with compared to waist harnesses.
When choosing between seat and waist harnesses, key factors to consider include skill level, riding style, comfort vs. performance priorities, physical needs, and personal preference. Many kiteboarding schools use seat harnesses for teaching beginners, but more experienced riders often transition to waist harnesses for greater maneuverability.
