Surf Hoods & Neoprene Beanies | Hooded & Happy

Neoprene beanies and hoods are essential accessories for cold water sports, particularly those engaged in kiting, winging, and foiling. These accessories help regulate body temperature and protect against cold water and wind chill, allowing when combined with a winter wetsuit for extended sessions in various conditions all year round.

Neoprene Hoods

Hoods offer more extensive protection than beanies, shielding the head, ears, and neck from cold water and wind. They are essential for water temperatures below 14°C (57°F). Hoods come in various thicknesses, including 2mm, 3mm, and 5mm, which can be chosen based on the water temperature. However, some individuals may experience claustrophobia when wearing a hood.

Neoprene Beanies

Neoprene beanies are ideal for milder temperatures, offering greater freedom of movement compared to full hoods. They are also easier to put on and take off. Additionally, beanies can be worn over hoods for extra warmth in colder conditions. Typically, neoprene beanies are around 2mm thick, providing a balance between warmth and flexibility.

Thickness Guidelines

  • 1.5 mm - 2mm :Suitable for water temperatures above 57°F (14°C)
  • 3 mm: Recommended for temperatures below 50°F (10°C)
  • 5 mm: For extremely cold conditions below 41°F (5°C)
