Kitesurfing Kites | Inflatable / Foil

Kiteboarding kites can be broadly categorized into two main types: inflatable and foil kites. Each type has its own characteristics and subtypes, catering to different riding styles and conditions.

Inflatable Kites

Inflatable kites, dominate the kiteboarding scene particularly in water sports, are distinguished by their inflatable tubes along the leading edge and struts that provide essential structure and buoyancy. Among these, three main designs have emerged over time: C-kites, the original design characterized by their C-shaped profile and square wingtips, excel in freestyle and wakestyle riding with their high power and stability when unhooked, though they're typically too aggressive for beginners; Bow kites, introduced in the mid-2000s, feature an innovative bridle-pulley system that enables easy depowering and relaunching, making them popular among racers and speed enthusiasts due to their exceptional upwind performance and adaptability in varying wind conditions; and Delta or Hybrid kites, which represent a hybrid approach combining elements of both C and bow kites, featuring a D-shaped profile and compact design that offers easy relaunching capabilities and versatility across different wind conditions, making them particularly suitable for beginners, freeriders, big air enthusiasts, and wave riders thanks to their forgiving nature and gradual turning abilities.

Foil Kites

Foil kites, available in both open-cell and closed-cell designs, represent a distinct category of kiteboarding equipment that differs from traditional inflatable kites. Open-cell kites, characterized by their freely flowing air intakes, excel in light winds and are primarily used for land-based activities and snow kiting, though they aren't ideal for water use. In contrast, closed-cell kites feature valves that trap air inside, making them better suited for water activities, particularly light wind kitesurfing and hydrofoil racing, while offering superior upwind performance and water relaunch capabilities compared to their open-cell counterparts.
