Kiteboarding Control Bar System | Lines, Extensions & Parts

Every kiteboarder should know their control bar components inside and out - it's not just about riding, it's about staying safe and getting the best performance from your gear. Your kite control bar system is your direct connection to the kite, making it one of the most crucial pieces of equipment you own.

Your lines are an essential part of kitesurfing equipment, typically made from strong materials like Dyneema that can handle lots of strain,  without stretching . These lines usually come in lengths between 20 to 25 meters, with most standard bars equipped with 22 or 24-meter lines. The length you choose makes a big difference in how your kite performs - shorter lines are great for quick kite loops and wave riding, while longer lines give you more power when the wind is light.

Line extensions are super helpful add-ons that let you customize your kite's performance by changing the total line length. When you make your lines longer with extensions, you can get more power and higher jumps because your kite can travel further in the wind window. However, longer lines also mean slower steering, which can actually be perfect for beginners or light wind days. The best part is that adding or removing extensions is quick and easy - it usually takes less than a minute to switch them up, simply remove the pigtails at the end of the lines, add the extensions and put the pigtails back. You can adapt to different conditions or try new riding styles whenever you want!

Regular maintenance is key to keeping your gear in top condition. While kite lines typically need the most attention and frequent replacement, every component deserves a thorough check before you hit the water. When in doubt, reach out to your local kiteboarding shop - they're there to help you assess your gear and find the right replacement parts. Remember, it's always better to replace a questionable part early than risk equipment failure during your session! Check your bar EVERY session!!!
