Great board for people who travel, surf and foil!
I tried the Converter when I was looking at strapless surfboards for kiting. I knew I wanted to eventually get into foiling, so the Converter seemed like a good way to kill two birds with one stone. I’ve traveled a lot for kiting, and the idea of having one board for foiling and surfing seemed very practical.
As a surfboard, the Converter is a very stable board for a beginner wave rider. It's easy to stand on, and it's easy to steer through big chop and small waves. I’m a smaller person, so the 5’4” size is pretty floaty for me, but it didn’t make it difficult to handle. I’ve tried the Slingshot Celeritas surfboard, which I loved, and the Converter performs similarly. The Converter is heavier to carry than the Celeritas because of the foil track, but when you're in the water, the extra weight of the Converter isn't noticeable. I didn't try the board in big waves, but for my purposes, this board worked really well.
I haven’t tried the board for foiling, but my friends who foil with the Converter love it. They say it’s very comparable to the Slingshot Dwarfcraft, but the Converter is less prone to pearling because of the extra length and floatier feel. It’s a bigger board, so that makes sense. They especially like the fact that they can take off the foil and use the board as a regular surfboard, when they want to practice foiling footwork without the foil. In this way, the Converter is ideal for practicing foiling before you actually get on a foil. All in one board.
If you travel for kiting and you like riding waves and foiling, the Converter is a very practical option. If you travel, you’re looking for a surfboard, and you KNOW you’re eventually going to take up foiling, I would definitely go with this board.
